Positive: My goodness, what an exceptional hotel and restaurant! Traditional on the outside, the interior decor was very stylish and modern, with great lighting and art - and very friendly staff. The room was spacious with a great bathroom/shower and unexpected gifts inside - a traditional homebaked Basque cake, complimentary drinks in the fridge and a wonderful selection of tealeaves (cups with strainers) and a coffee machine. A really lovely welcome. But then came the most amazing bit - the evening meal! We were on a road trip and didn't want to splash out on the Michelin star restaurant so chose to eat in the Bistro. It was honestly the best meal I've ever eaten - and at a very reasonable price. Three courses, two options for each. And every one spectacular. Also a very nice white wine served with it. In the morning, breakfast was served in the main restaurant so we were able to watch the chef preparing our food. He was very friendly and chatted to us. He made the best scrambled egg ever! Was asked if he'd make us some sandwiches to take on the road with us - which he did. And guess what - they were delicious with homemade bread! I wish we lived locally, we'd eat here all the time! In the morning, we also wandered into the town and the farmers' market. It was a mixture of food - fresh and cooked - and gifts. Fun to soak up the local atmosphere.

Negative: It's too far from our home for us to visit regularly.
