The Bake House is an exceptional country retreat with an idyllic garden and amazing views over the Box valley. It offers a stylish and airy modern interior within a charming Cotswold stone cottage. It has 2 double bedrooms and a luxury bathroom. (A single bedroom with en-suite shower room is available for an extra charge.) Enjoy a superb kitchen, dining area, living area plus a snug with wood-burner, a WC/cloakroom, TV, books, games and superfast wifi.
Although the origins of the cottage date back to the 18th century it has been completely modernised to create an open-plan living/cooking/dining space. This opens with double doors onto a flag stoned suntrap terrace with quality outdoor furniture, a fountain and mature olive trees.
The garden itself is delightful with different areas to enjoy the sun or the views depending on the time of day. There is an Idler outdoor sofa/swing seat.
We have a secure parking area behind electric gates big enough for two cars.
Here, you have all the delights of Cotswold countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are numerous walks direct from your doorstep, including down the valley to a picturesque lake, to a historic hamlet and on to a charming pub with seating next to a brook. You can walk from the house to Lucknam Park hotel where you can enjoy coffee, a brasserie meal or Michelin starred dining. The Spa has a wonderful pool and all the usual spa treatments.
You can walk to great local pubs in Colerne or cross country to the White Hart at Ford, nestled beside the ByBrook stream. For something a bit smarter Lucknam Park hotel is a five minute walk, where you can enjoy coffee, lunch or a casual dinner in the stylish Brasserie or dress up and treat yourself to posh afternoon tea or a gourmet dining experience in the hotel restaurant.
By car, you are spoilt for choice, with our recommended pubs and relaxed restaurants in Box or Corsham. Bath is a short drive away where there is a huge selection of restaurants and gastropubs.
Days out
You'll want to spend time exploring the famous Georgian city of Bath with its stunning architecture, designer shopping, museums, parks, theatre, cinemas and restaurants. Lacock is fabulously picturesque, Corsham is also an unspoiled market town with some quaint boutique shops, local restaurants and pubs.
National Trust properties for days out include Dyrham Park, Prior Park, Tyntesfield, Hidcote, Stourhead.
Walking
We have some great walks right from our doorstep. One of our favourites is a circular route down into the Box valley, over a trickling stream to a lake, then back on well-marked trails past a historic estate, once Sir Walter Raleigh's hunting lodge. Another walk will take you to the "time stood still" hamlet of Slaughterford and on to the White Hart pub in Ford.
