Positive: I booked this stay at the last minute and while the property has many charming aspects, there were a few things I wish I’d known in advance. Firstly, I didn’t realize that the toilet was not en-suite. Although it was for our exclusive use, being outside the room wasn’t ideal for me. On the plus side, the separate toilet did have its own washbasin, which was good. The property itself is a converted farmhouse, full of character and original features like stone walls, giving it a unique charm. Our room was a good size with a lovely shower cubicle and a washbasin in the corner. The antique and unique furniture added to the rustic feel. The room was very clean but quite cold. Since it’s located underground, it stays cool, but with the heating switched off at the mains and no way to turn it on, it was uncomfortable at times. There were a few spiders but that’s to be expected in the countryside. The host was very welcoming, which made us feel at ease. However, we had a massage included in our room rate, and this was never mentioned or offered — something that should be addressed for future guests. A no-outdoor-shoes policy is enforced, and slip-ons are provided in different sizes. I thought this was a great idea as it helped keep the property clean. There were no coffee-making facilities or drinking water in the room, but guests are allowed to use a common kitchen. The absence of a TV didn’t bother us, but there was no Wi-Fi in the bedroom either — something that should be clearly stated in advance so guests can decide if that’s is acceptable to them. One concern was that after going out for dinner and leaving some lights on in our locked room, we returned to find them all turned off. It seems someone had entered the room while we were away, which felt intrusive and raised concerns about privacy. Breakfast was served between 8–10 am and is prepared by the owner.
