Summary: The hotel is very tired. The website does a very good job of making the hotel look luxurious and I would say that this is misleading. For the high price bracket, and the four star rating, we expected a lot more than we got. The room was dark, with scuffed/chipped walls, marked carpets and ripped curtains. The bathroom was dated, and again was chipped and scuffed and just generally looking old and tired. Plug in air fresheners were everywhere trying to mask the odd, damp smell. We didn't stay for breakfast and were quite shocked to find that it wasn't included in the fairly high room rate. There was nothing really wrong with our stay other than we thought we were in for luxury but instead got a scruffy room which is crying out for a refurb. We had little/no interaction with the staff so couldn't really comment on their helpfulness. We didn't see much point in complaining as there is nothing the staff could have done to make it better, it just needs some maintenance and upgrading. The grounds seemed very pretty and if we had been staying longer than one night, we would definitely have explored them. Overall, not good value for money.
